Medicine Bow / Rawah Mountain Range Traverse

While viewing the NOAA weather website I could not believe what I was reading. There was going to be a four-day reprieve above tree line from rain or snow. The past month Northwestern Colorado and its higher elevations have had daily yet intermittent rain or snow showers. Thus preventing my plan to traverse a 30-mile section of the Medicine Bow Mountain Range (click here for map / patience please).

Deep Creek Canyon, CO Part 2

Descending into Deep Creek Canyon I was surprised to hear the faint sound of helicopter blades. Each step I took the sound grew closer and louder while I found myself scrambling for a position between the trees to locate the helicopter. Before I knew it, there was a CH-47 Chinook helicopter flying below the canyon rim heading west (up canyon). About 30 minutes later a medical UH-60A (Blackhawk) helicopter also flew up canyon. I began to wonder what was taking place. Was this an Army National Guard Company conducting a military exercise or participating in a search and rescue mission?

Sitting at the end of Drew’s kitchen table in Steamboat Springs, CO for 7 days and learning how to create a blog while loosing another millimeter or two of my hairline. I decided it was time to separate from the project, head to the White River Plateau, and explore Deep Creek Canyon NW of Dotsero, CO.

Leaving Albuquerque, NM I made my way north to Taos for a few days to visit a friend. Each time I arrive in Taos I always ask myself, what do you think of Taos? Several minutes pass as I remember past visits to the area and cannot come up with any decisive thought to place onto the town other then, maybe this visit will help me decide.
