Descending the ridge took two hours and placed me in the meadow at dusk. It was nice to walk on level ground and no longer feel the chill of the wind.

Medicine Bow / Rawah Mountain Range Traverse (Day 3)

Unfortunately the cluster of trees I slept in did not allow for first morning light, and I laid in my sleeping bag a little longer than I would have liked. Sipping tea I heard four rifle shots and thought, its not the second elk-hunting season yet, is it? How wrong I was.

Medicine Bow / Rawah Mountain Range Traverse (Day 2)

Morning Fog

Morning Fog

Waking up to fog was a surprise. Earlier the predawn sky offered stunning views of the Milky Way, crescent moon, and Venus. Thinking the fog would break within the hour, I slunk deeper into my sleeping bag and dozed the early morning away. Finally I could no longer sleep and was forced to start the day.
